What is the difference between a personal trainer and online coaching?

Short answer

With personal training, the trainer is there in person, watches you, and corrects you immediately. Online coaching takes place remotely: you train independently with agreed plans and feedback from the trainer, without the trainer being physically present while you work out. TrainerLink lists the location format, price, and terms for each service.

The difference in guidance

  • Personal training — the trainer makes live adjustments and adapts your technique, pace, and load immediately.
  • Online coaching — you train independently based on agreed plans; feedback is not tied to every repetition.
  • Online guidance is useful when distance, your schedule, or the location make live sessions difficult. Live sessions can also be offered online through a video call.

Choose what suits you

  1. Choose live guidance if you want maximum direction and immediate correction.

  2. Choose remote coaching if you can train independently and mainly need planning and feedback.

  3. Read the location format, price, and terms for each service, and discuss any doubts during an intake.

If a service is marked as “online” but you want to train in person, look at other services from the same trainer or filter the directory by location format; not every trainer offers every format.
